Specialised training course for penitentiary services

Under the program "Enhancing the Capacity of Georgia in Preventing Violent Extremism and Radicalization" the Georgian Center for Strategy and Development (GCSD) organized a specialised training course for penitentiary services.

The representatives from the Special Penitentiary Service were participating in the training. Within the context of prison institutions, they received instruction in both the theoretical aspects and practical examples related to terrorism, radicalization, and violent extremism. Over the course of three days, discussions covered topics such as the justice system and rule of law in the context of counter-terrorism and violent extremism as well as evaluation of violent extremism, rehabilitation, reintegration, and gender-specific aspects in violent extremism.

The training course was developed and led by Peta Lowe, Principal Consultant with Phronesis Consulting and Training. She also is a Specialist Consultant for the Countering Violent Extremism Unit, The Commonwealth Secretariat.

This program is implemented by GCSD with financial support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway.
